PE and Games

Our aims in teaching PE at Stokenchurch Primary School are to; develop pupils competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities; make sure all pupils are physically active for sustained periods of time; lead healthy and active lives; find enjoyment in physical activity; develop positive attitudes to physical education; be able to cope with success and failure; understand how physical exercise affects the body and understand the need for safe practice in physical activities.

PE is taught throughout the school year but not all areas of activity are covered each term. Within this framework, each class spends approximately 2 hours per week on Physical Education covering games, gymnastics, dance and athletics.

Key stage 1 receives an additional 30 minutes of specialist PE coaching through our PPA provision. Similarly Key stage 2 receives an additional 40 minutes of specialist PE coaching through this provision. Also all children have access to swimming provision in the summer term. Additionally in year 5 the children visit Willen Lake to take part in 4 different sporting activities and in year 6, pupils have the opportunity to participate in the school journey to France, where outdoor and adventurous activities are taught.
