Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

(Updated 05/11/18)

We are very excited to have a chance to meet with you all at Parents’ Evening this week and be able to talk about your child’s progress through year 4 so far. Communication is extremely important to us so please do continue to keep in touch via your child’s homework diary should the need arise. A quick reminder, can you please ensure that homework diaries are signed every week, as although this process started well at the beginning of term we have noticed that more and more children are coming in on a Monday without signatures.

We have a busy few weeks ahead. In particular, preparing for our production of ‘Porridge’. Rehearsals are already underway and requests for costumes will be making their way to you on Friday 9th November. Thank you for your support in learning lines as well as providing your child with a costume. You will find further details regarding the performances, including dates and times, within a separately letter coming home soon.

So, what else are we doing this term? In English we are focussing upon description, writing our own fantasy stories set in imaginary worlds, followed by a unit on persuasive language. Through our Blocked Curriculum children will be learning the skill of silk painting in Art as well as finding out about The Bronze Age in History. Maths continues to follow national guidelines.

The teaching and support staff would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the children on their mature approach in the first half term of Year 4. In addition they are becoming more independent and are rising to the challenges of Year 4. We would also like to thank all parents for their support with uniform, reading and homework (in particular the amazing digestive system projects – see examples above).

In the lead up to Christmas we hope that this support will continue. As it colder please can you ensure that your child is coming into school with a coat and appropriate PE kit.
