Year 4 - Summer News

Updated 28/04/17

Welcome back to a very exciting summer term with lots to look forward too. This term has started with our long awaited trip to Hazard Alley. Children thoroughly enjoyed developing their awareness of different safety scenarios and have hopefully picked up some life long skills as well. On both visits and back at school children conducted themselves with high levels of maturity as well as giving well thought out contributions. All the year 4 team would like to say a massive well done!

In English we have been enjoying reading about the adventures of Tuffy 'The Killer Cat' in Anne Fine's wonderfully funny short novel. Through our lessons in Blocked Curriculum children will be learning about the Science behind sound and also have the opportunity to develop observation drawing skills in Art. Maths continues to follow national guidelines.

Please note the following dates for your diary:

Monday 15th May - Friday 19th May – Book Fair Week

Friday 9th June - 4K Class Assembly

Friday 23rd June - Year 3 and 4 Sports Day

A quick reminder, can you please ensure that homework diaries are signed every week, as although this process started well at the beginning of the school year we have noticed that more and more children are coming in on a Monday without signatures. Furthermore can we please remind children that spelling tests are every Monday,so please make sure to practice these at home too (these can be found on the Homework section of the website).

We are all pleased to announce an exciting trial coming to Year 4. Over the next 5 weeks children are going to be taking part in a new times table scheme. When it comes to times tables, speed and accuracy are important – the more facts your child remembers, the easier it is for them to do harder calculations. Times Table Rock Stars is a fun and challenging programme designed to help students master the times tables! To be a Times Table Rock Star you need to answer any multiplication fact up to 12×12 in less than 3 seconds! We would really appreciate your support with this and any times tables practice at home will always be beneficial.
