11.01.21 - Persuasive Letters (Oak National Academy)

This week, to follow along with the English curriculum that was planned to start this term, we would like you to access the lessons on The National Oak Academy website for 'Persuasive Writing'. Monday 11th January:

Spelling Practice: To spell words ending in fer followed by a suffix.

✎ Nelson: Complete the activities from the Nelson text book (available at the bottom of this page).

  • Must: complete 'Focus' (there is a Support sheet available below if you need a little more help)
  • Should: complete 'Focus' and 'Extra'
  • Could: complete 'Focus', 'Extra' and 'Extension'
  • Bonus: if you finish the above, and want to do some more, download and complete the extension sheet below

Main Lesson: To generate points to use in a persuasive letter.

Tuesday 12th January:

Reading Response: Complete 10 minutes (minimum) of independent or shared reading. Think about the characters in the story you are ready. Who would you like to be if you had to choose? Why? Draw a picture of yourself as this character, and around the edge, explain why you have chosen them, remembering to use evidence or examples from the text.

Main Lesson: To develop a rich understanding of words associated with feeling surprised.

Wednesday 13th January:

Reading Response: Complete 10 minutes (minimum) of independent or shared reading. Think about how the book, or part of the book, you have read made you feel. Create a page or piece of art that represents this feeling. If you'd like a bit of extra challenge, write down any key words the author has used that helped to create this feeling.

Main Lesson: To plan a persuasive letter.

Thursday 14th January:

Handwriting and Spelling Practice: Download the Statutory Spelling and Handwriting Mindfulness Booklet (available at the bottom of this page). Complete letters A and B.

Main Lesson: To practice and apply knowledge of the suffixes -ant and -ent.

Friday 15th January:

Reading Response: Complete 10 minutes (minimum) of independent or shared reading. Write down any words that are tricky, confusing or you are unsure of their meaning. Look up the words and write your own definition for what they mean. If you'd like a little extra challenge, try using these new words in a sentence of your own.

Main Lesson: To develop an understanding of how to use formal conjunctions.
