Monday 18th May:

 Task 1: Spend 5-10 minutes practising your times tables on TTRockStars. Let's keep up our (unofficial) title of reigning champion year group.

 Task 2: Number squares - mental addition and subtraction of whole numbers and decimals (pages 52 and 53)

For each of the Challenges, you need to use your knowledge of addition and subtraction to solve these two-step and multi-step number square problems. You should try to do this mentally (in your head), but remember you can use informal methods (e.g. a number line, jottings) to help you.

  • Must: complete Challenge 1.
  • Should: complete Challenge 1 and Challenge 2.
  • Could: complete Challenge 1, Challenge 2 and Challenge 3.

Tuesday 19th May:

 Task 1: Choose and play a game from the 'Play' section on Mathletics.

 Task 2: Addition targets and reasoning skills (pages 54 and 55)

The activities in this session require a 10-sided die. If you don't have one at home, click here to roll a die online (in the one die section, choose Ten-sided).

  • Must: complete Challenge 1 (if you find this a little tricky, you may begin with the support
    sheet which is attached below).
  • Should: complete Challenge 1 and Challenge 2. Challenge 2, part 3 suggests working with (against) a partner. If you do not have a partner you can still complete it on your own by choosing your own target number and seeing how close you can get to it in five rounds.
  • Could: complete Challenge 1, Challenge 2 and Challenge 3.

 

Wednesday 20th May:

  • Could: complete Challenge 1, Challenge 2 and Challenge 3.

 Task 2: Number Row Problems Investigation

Download the Number Row Problems Investigation sheet below. Go through each question by working out which consecutive numbers add up or multiply to give you the required answer.

Extension: Can you make up some of your own questions for someone at home to do? Make sure you work them out too, so that you can check whether they are right!
