RE - Places of Worship

Monday 30th March:

Task 1: Why are places of worship important?

Down the PowerPoint below and read through it - this is best done when you open the Slide Show version. At the end of the presentation, you are asked the following questions:

  • How do places of worship make people feel when they are there?
  • What kinds of things happen in a place of worship?
  • What words could you use to describe places of worship?

Jot your ideas down on some paper. Next, you have been asked to use these ideas to write a poem.

  • Must: Describe what happens in places of worship.
  • Should: Include all 'musts' and use adjectives to describe how places of worship make people feel when they are there.
  • Could: Check all 'musts' and 'shoulds'. Use a thesaurus for more interesting word choices in your poem.

Tuesday 31st March:

Task 1: Muslim Mosques

Go through the Muslim Mosque PowerPoint (available to download below). After watching the video (link available in the PowerPoint), write an explanation - at least one paragraph - about what happens in the weekly Friday service. We recommend recording the short date, subject and focus at the start (just like we would in school, but simpler) to help you keep track.

  • Must: Include a simple description of events that take place in the video.
  • Should: Include all 'musts' and include extra information from the video (for example, the language used in the prayers).
  • Could: Include all 'musts' and 'shoulds', and have a look at the other videos available through the link. Add anything relevant to your explanation.

Thursday 2nd April:

Task 1: Christian Churches

Go through the Christian Church PowerPoint (available to download below). Why do you think that it is important for Christians to feel like they are part of the Church family? Discuss and share ideas about this with someone at home. Write down your thoughts in paragraphs in your exercise books. We recommend recording the short date, subject and focus at the start (just like we would in school, but simpler) to help you keep track.
