Accessibility Statement

Introduction

Stokenchurch Primary School and Nursery is committed to making our website accessible to as many people as possible, including those with disabilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at AA level, the recognised international standard for accessibility.

Scope

This statement applies to all content published on our website and explains how accessible the content is, any known limitations, and how people can request accessible alternatives if needed.

Conformance Status

While much of the website is accessible, it is not fully compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA. We are working to improve accessibility where reasonably possible.

School Exemptions under the Accessibility Regulations

Under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018, primary and secondary schools and nurseries are partially exempt from the requirement to make all website content accessible. This exemption applies only where the content is not essential for people to use the school’s services online.

Examples of content that must still be made accessible include:

  • online forms and tools that parents or carers need to access school services

  • content required to use essential administrative functions of the school

We have included this information here to ensure transparency about how the regulations apply to our school.

Accessibility Features

Our website has been designed to:

  • work on a wide range of devices (responsive design)

  • be navigable using a keyboard

  • allow users to zoom text up to at least 400% without loss of content or functionality

  • be compatible with modern assistive technologies such as screen readers

Known Accessibility Issues

Some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • Older PDFs and documents may not be structured for screen readers

  • Embedded Google Maps may not be accessible

  • Some forms with custom styling may not be fully accessible

  • Some images may lack descriptive alternative text

  • Videos may not have captions or transcripts

  • Some links may not use descriptive text

  • Some tables may lack correctly coded headers

  • Some text may not meet required colour contrast ratios

We are working to fix these issues where reasonably practical.

Ongoing Efforts

We regularly:

  • review and improve accessibility as part of site updates

  • conduct annual audits and user testing

  • work with our website provider to improve compatibility with assistive technology

  • incorporate user feedback into our accessibility planning

Third‑Party Content

Some content is provided by third‑party services (e.g., map embeds or documents) and may not fully meet accessibility standards. Where this is the case, we aim to provide accessible alternatives.
