Art Curriculum Overview

 

EYFS

Foundation Stage art is taught within child-initiated play indoors and outdoors.

 

YEAR 1

Sculpture- This unit is linked to Christmas and the children create salt-dough decorations.

Drawing- Pencil skills are introduced and portraits produced.

 

YEAR 2

Collage- The topic of Picture This! is linked to materials in science.

Artist Study- Van Gogh

Drawing- Patterns are investigated.

 

YEAR 3

Artist Study- Lowry

Printing- Patterns are investigated through printing.

Drawing- Skills and techniques are developed.

 

YEAR 4

Painting- Silk painting is explored through the topic of Journeys.

Drawing- Skills are developed using different pencils/charcoal with a focus on Aboriginal art.

Artist Study- Picasso (cubism)

 

YEAR 5

Textiles- Children create an applique/embroidered page of a picture book.

Drawing- Skills and techniques developed using Objects and Meanings topic.

Sculpture/Artist Study- Kate Malone

 

YEAR 6

Drawing- A Sense of Place topic with a focus on perspective.

Painting- Pop Art with a focus on WW2 propaganda posters.

Artist Study- Barbara Hepworth
