HOLIDAY PROJECT
‘The earth is a fine place and worth fighting for’ – Ernest Hemingway
Over the holidays, we would like you to work on a project entitled, ‘Our World’. In particular we would like you to focus on
‘Earth Day’
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.
Each blade of grass,
Each honey tree,
Each bit of mud,
And stick and stone
Is blood and muscle,
Skin and bone.
And just as I
Need every bit
Of me to make
My body fit,
So Earth needs
Grass and stone and tree
And things that grow here
Naturally.
That's why we
Celebrate this day.
That's why across
The world we say:
As long as life,
Is dear, is free,
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.

You can work on your own or with other members of your family. You can present your project in a scrapbook, in a booklet or as a PowerPoint presentation on the computer – the choice is yours!
Find out about Earth Day –
Watch these videos to help you get started:

Your project might include some writing (a report on Earth Day like your Great Fire of London work maybe), a poem (maybe an acrostic poem?), a poster, some pictures or artwork. You may want to consider ‘Reduce, Re-use, Recycle’ and actually make something fun and/or useful using recycled materials for example:
How many different ways can you think of to recycle a plastic bottle?
What could you make out of recycled card?
These websites have some other, great ideas:

Above all we want you to have fun whilst finding out about ‘Our World’. Don’t forget to send in pictures of your work especially the things you make!
Please send in your pictures via email by Monday 20th April so that we can create another wonderful display in the Year 2 gallery!
