Summer Term Week 5

This week we will be looking at some SPAG work (Monday and Friday), then focusing on another great book - 'The Jolly Postman' by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. Watch the YouTube version of the story then work on each of the daily tasks detailed below. You may print out the sheets or alternatively simply complete each task directly into your Home Learning book. 

Monday 29th June - SPAG - Types of sentences. Watch BBC bitesize ‘How to write command sentences' clip and do the online activities. Using your knowledge of questions and commands, complete the worksheet. If you would prefer not to print the worksheets, write some sentences about your week trying to use a variety of sentence types.

Tuesday 30th June. Read the letter from Goldilocks to the 3 bears. Can you correct any of her spellings? Write a letter from the 3 bears to Goldilocks. Will they forgive Goldilocks and will they allow Goldilocks' daddy to mend the chair? I wonder if Baby Bear will be allowed to go to the party in your letter.

Wednesday 1st July - Create a map showing the Jolly postman’s journey and the homes he visited. The pictures below might give you some ideas.

Thursday 2nd July - Look carefully at the picture of Grandma and the Wolf reading the letter. Write 10 questions about the picture. E.g Why is the cat hiding? Why is the postman about to spill his tea?

Tuesday 23rd June - The Day the Crayons Quit - The crayons have gone on holiday! Write a letter or postcard home to Duncan describing where they are and what they have been doing. Use the examples below to help you.

Wednesday 24th June - The Day the Crayons Quit - Create a picture where each crayon has a speech bubble. Can someone guess the colour of your crayon by reading their speech bubble? Use the example below to help you.

Thursday 24th June -The Day the Crayons Quit - Write an apology letter (to say he is sorry) from Duncan to the crayons If you finish, you might like to do the crossword or word search below.

Tuesday 9th June - Non-fiction punctuation . Go through today's power point and complete the nocturnal animals punctuation sheet.

Wednesday June 10th and Thursday 11th June. Information writing - Choose either a fox, badger or hedgehog– watch the power point then write about your chosen animal using the 'animal information worksheet'.

Friday 12th June - Spelling test and common exception word handwriting practice Complete look, cover write check sheet ready for next week’s test.

PUPIL VOICE READING SURVEY

We'd like to say a big thank you to the 34 children in Year 2 who have already completed the pupil voice reading survey which was on the timetable before half term. If you haven't yet had the chance to do it, please can you fit it into your home learning this week? It should only take 10 minutes.smiley 

 

Reading activity ideas and bookmarks

Spellings - Once you've done your weekly spelling test, neatly write out next week's spellings onto your 'Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check' sheet. Can you use your new spellings in a sentence?

Please see the attached differentiated learning mats which show different elements your children should try to use in their everyday writing. You may wish to print off a 'Working Towards' mat, 'Expected Standard' mat or 'Greater Depth' mat to remind your child and to show them useful common exception word spellings.
