HANDWRITING

Handwriting

The Great Big Pen Licence

Handwriting is an important part of Year 4, particularly because it is the year in which to gain a pen!

All children should be aiming to join all of their letters by the end of Year 4. Please remind your child that all children will gain a pen at some point and encourage them to keep up the great work!

In order to continue with the progress that the children have made so far, we will have a weekly letter to focus on. Children can either complete this in their home learning books or, if you have access to a printer, you can print off the lined sheet below.

The links below are to help you at home:

1. Lined handwriting paper with red and blue lines (similar to their handwriting books at school)

2. Sheet displaying the correct formation of each letter - capital and lower case. This can be very helpful to print off and have next to your child as they write.

3. An example of how to complete their handwriting each week.

During handwriting lessons at school, we like to keep the first 10 minutes fun and practical with games such as, drawing the letter on each other's back or writing the letter (using their finger) on something ... fluffy, purple and transparent. We encourage anything that you can do at home that gets your child practising the letter formation in a fun, engaging way.

After this, we start to join the weekly letter to different letters and finish by completing a page of handwriting in our book (example below).

Please remember to email us any pictures of work that your child is proud of and feel free to ask us any questions. yearfour@stokenchurchprimary.bucks.sch.uk
