This week, we will be learning about fractions and percentages.

Monday 1st March:

Task 1: Spend 5-10 minutes practising your times tables on TTRockStars.

Task 2: To write percentages as a fraction with a denominator of 100

- This lesson focuses on recapping knowledge of percentages as being fractions out of 100. The Live Lesson will focus on methods for converting shaded grids of 100 from fraction forms to percentages as well as methods for identifying how a percentage can be converted back to a fraction with a denominator of 100.

- For additional support try the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5CzHgPTobk&list=PL_veIGcSU3qwvHrxhVdd49pphjAx8S0cr&index=1

- We advise that challenge 2 of the work is skipped today in favour of completing a set Mathletics task instead. Please check your Mathletics account to find the assigned task 'Percentage to fraction' as a replacement to challenge 2.

- Note a support and additional extension task has been provided for those who feel they want a little reminder on percentages before they try converting or for those who want greater practice at converting between percentages and fractions.

  • Must: Complete Challenge 1
  • Should: Complete Challenge 1 and the assigned Mathletics Task 'Percentage to fraction'
  • Could: Complete Challenge 1, the assigned Mathletics Task and challenge 3

Tuesday 2nd March:

Task 1: Choose and play a game from the 'Play' section on Mathletics.

Task 2: To write percentages as decimals to two decimal places

- This lesson focuses on recapping knowledge of percentages as being represented as decimals using two decimal places. As percentage is 'out of 100' then decimals written to the hundredth column can be shown as equivalent. This will be reviewed within the Live Lesson along with converting from decimals to percentages.

- For additional support try the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xqMzZet0e8&list=PL_veIGcSU3qwvHrxhVdd49pphjAx8S0cr&index=5&safe=true

- Note for those unable to complete challenge 3 with a friend or family member we have assigned an additional challenge via Mathletics. Log in to complete the assigned task 'Decimal to percentage'.

- Extra Note! A support task has been provided for those who feel they want a little reminder on percentages before they try converting or for those who want greater practice at converting between percentages and decimals.

- Access the pre-teaching video for this lesson here: Pre-teach link

  • Must: Complete Challenge 1
  • Should: Complete Challenge 1 and Challenge 2
  • Could: Complete Challenge 1, 2 and assigned Mathletics task 'Decimal to percentage'

Wednesday 3rd March:

Task 1: Spend 5-10 minutes practising your times tables on TTRockStars.

Task 2: To know percentage equivalents of some fractions

- This lesson focuses on using knowledge of percentages, decimals and fractions to identify key equivalences that can be used to support in solving percentage problems. In the Live Lesson we will focus on showing the key equivalences that are worth remembering as well as demonstrating how they are equivalent using methods of simplification.

- For additional support try the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSjNN6QzNKM&list=PL_veIGcSU3qwvHrxhVdd49pphjAx8S0cr&index=4&safe=true

- Note an additional extension task has been provided for those who feel they want greater practice at identifying percentage, fraction and decimal equivalence.

- Access the pre-teaching video for this lesson here: Pre-teach link

  • Must: Complete Challenge 1
  • Should: Complete Challenge 1 and Challenge 2
  • Could: Complete Challenge 1, 2 and 3 (or complete assigned Mathletics Task 'Match decimals and percentages' as an alternative)

Thursday 4th March:

Task 1: Choose and play a game from the 'Play' section on Mathletics.

Task 2: To solve problems involving percentages

- This lesson focuses on practising methods for finding percentages of numbers as a key skill for percentage problem solving. Within the Live Lesson we will also look at recapping the 'RUCSAC' technique for approaching and solving word problems as well as going through a few examples together.

- For additional support try the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgcHtoVMs6Y&list=PL_veIGcSU3qyPF_Q9PqgxZtls_Io9x5y3&index=3&safe=true

- Note a support and additional extension task has been provided for those who feel they want a  greater practice at finding percentages of numbers. It is advised that the support sheet could be used instead of challenge 2 and 3 of the main work set. The extension task is an assigned Mathletics task labelled 'Percentage word problems'.

  • Must: Complete Challenge 1
  • Should: Complete Challenge 1 and Challenge 2
  • Could: Complete Challenge 1, 2 and 3

Friday 5th March:

Task 1: Complete the set activities on Mathletics if any have been missed during the week

Task 2: End of unit assessment

- Access the pre-teaching video for this lesson here: Video Link

- To ensure that the skills you have learnt are not forgotten, we would like you to have a go at the end of unit assessment available below (you are used to doing these in school on Fridays). You can also find the answers so that you can check how you did once you have finished (Just email in to request them once you've finished to avoid the temptation of peeking early!)
