Year 1

Welcome to Year 1 2025/26!

Welcome to the Autumn term of Year 1. We hope the children have had a great summer break and are fully refreshed, ready for the exciting school year ahead of them.

Year 1 staff have been busy over the summer preparing a fantastic programme of learning and enrichment. If you would like to see what an average week in year 1 looks like, an example of our weekly Autumn 1 timetable is attached at the bottom of this page.

As we know, the transition from reception to year 1 can be quite daunting. Therefore, this term we have added 'COOL' time sessions in the afternoon. These sessions facilitate play-based learning, allowing children to Choose Our Own Learning. COOL time is in addition to core phonics, maths, English and science lessons.

Phonics takes a central role in Year 1 with all children taking the statutory Phonics Screening Check in early June. Please take a look through the various Year 1 pages on this site which detail our phonics learning and includes copies of spelling lists and weekly phonics activity sheets, allowing parents and carers to support their children's progress.

As always, if you need to get in touch, either catch one of the year 1 team at pickup or email us via the main school office email address.
