Spring Week 6 08.02.2021

English and Wellbeing

This week in English we will start with some activities based on the setting of your class book, Running Wild, before moving on to some Wellbeing activities for the final three days. Further details about the timings and content of these lessons can be found in the ‘Live Lessons’ section.

Monday 8th February

Jungle animal riddles

Look through the riddles in the Jungle Animal PowerPoint (see the Resource Bank below). Guess each animal from the clues and identify the syllable structure of the riddles.

Now have a go at creating your own animal-based riddle for us to guess in tomorrow’s Live Lesson. You could write your own riddle about an Indonesian jungle animal or something closer to home such as a farm animal or pet.

Your riddle should:

  • Contain two clues about two special or unique features of your animal. (What does your animal have that other animals don’t?)
  • Have the same syllable structure as the examples.
  • Give us enough information that we can guess which animal you are describing.

If you aren’t sure about how to identify the syllable structure, this video might help:

Tuesday 9th February

Celebrating our writing

In this lesson we will be sharing our animal-based riddles during our Live Lesson. Please have your riddles ready before the start of the lesson.

If you are not able to join this Live Lesson, please draw or find a picture of the animal your riddle is about and send both your riddle and the picture to yearfour@stokenchurchprimary.bucks.sch.uk. You can write more than one riddle if you would like to.

Wednesday 10th February

Positive Thinking

For the remaining Live Lessons this week we will be dividing into our two Year 4 Class Groups. This is to reduce the numbers in each lesson and provide increased opportunities for everyone to join in if they would like to. We hope that everyone, including those who have not attended Live Lessons previously, will be able to join us for these wellbeing sessions.

10am Holly Class Live Lesson with Miss Holdsworth and Mrs Reason

11am Hazel Class Live Lesson with Mr Thompson and Mrs Foster

Today we will be sharing the positive things we have learned about ourselves and the positive things that have happened this half term. Everyone will then design their own positive thinking hat.

If you are not able to join us for this Live Lesson please look through the Positive Thinking PowerPoint in the Resource Bank and then try one or more of the Positive Thinking Challenge Cards activities or have a go at designing a Positive Thinking Hat (see Resource Bank).

Thursday 11th February

Celebrating our best work

Everyone should be really proud of everything they have achieved during Home Learning. This has not been an easy half term but you have all worked very hard and we want to celebrate this together.

Please select a favourite piece of work to show or tell us about in today’s Live Lesson. This could be:

  • A great piece of English, maths, geography, science or creative work.
  • A picture, photograph, garden plan or diagram.
  • Details of a science investigation or activity you have completed.
  • A demonstration of your favourite PE activity from the lesson you created for Mr Williams last week.

The timings for the Live Lessons today are:

10am Holly Class Live Lesson with Miss Holdsworth and Mrs Reason

11am Hazel Class Live Lesson with Mr Thompson and Mrs Foster

If you are not able to join us for this Live Lesson please select some of your best pieces of work from the half term and create a Celebration Scrap Book to remind you of everything you have achieved during Home Learning so far.

Friday 12th February

‘Bedtime Stories’ Reading Time

We all have our favourite book, illustration or poem and this is your opportunity to share yours with the rest of your class.

For this ‘Bedtime Story’ style event you can find somewhere comfortable to sit (remember that this should still be in a shared public area in your home), bring your favourite teddy and a drink or snack too.

Everyone will be invited to read their chosen poem or up to a page from their favourite book or to share their favourite illustration so please have your books ready before the start of the lesson!

The timings for the Live Lessons today are:

10am Holly Class Live Lesson with Miss Holdsworth and Mrs Reason

11am Hazel Class Live Lesson with Mr Thompson and Mrs Foster

If you are unable to join us for today’s Live Lesson you could write out a copy of your favourite poem or passage from a book, illustrate it and send it in to us at yearfour@stokenchurchprimary.bucks.sch.uk
