There are points up for grabs so you will need to keep tally to find out who is the official sports day gold medallist. Some activities require some objects so you may need to set this up first.

You can choose as many activities as you would like as long as everyone has a go at each.

Have lots of FUN and let us know how your sports day went. We would love to see any pictures and videos of you all in action.

Are you ready? Steady? GO!

Topic Task - Wednesday 2nd July

Religious Education: Beliefs and Practices

How do Jews show their commitment to God? Why they do this?

Must:

Use the template below to think about the different commitments Jews make to God. The circle is divided into 6 sections (like a pie). First you must choose the 6 ways you think are the
most effective ways for Jews to show their commitment to God. You might want to look back the work from previous lessons to remind yourself. Label each section with one of these ways. (You could draw or write.)

If you cannot print the sheet then you can always draw the circle into your book.

Should:

Colour in the sections to show which commitment you think is the most important (colour whole slice). You could shade each slice to show the most important going to the least. Fill in as if you were a Jew making these decisions.

You may also colour all sections fully or equally to show your thinking that all these ways are just as valid and that there is no best way. Write underneath your thinking for colouring the way you have.

Estimated Time: 40 mins

Topic Task - Monday 1st June

Science

LO: To identify how invertebrates are grouped

Welcome Back to our exciting science topic about living things!

Before half term, you sorted vertebrates into different sub groups: birds, mammals, fish… can you remember the rest? Have a look at your work if not.

Today, we are going to sort different invertebrates into smaller groups. Remember that an invertebrate is an animal with no backbone on internal skeleton. Here are some excellent videos to teach you about these living things:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr_T4skBYNo&safe=true

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzxFTrktN1c&safe=true

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zn22pv4/articles/z8mbqhv

Great website to browse: https://www.dkfindout.com/us/animals-and-nature/invertebrates/

Must: Sort the different characteristics of invertebrates (resource 1). The answers are included to check only- no peeking!

Should: Use the pictures to sort the invertebrates into the correct group using your characteristics (resource 2). You can print them, draw them and/ or label them.

Could: Create an information leaflet for a child that explains what invertebrates are and how they can be sorted into smaller groups. Imagine that this leaflet will be used at a zoo as information.

Estimated Time: 45 mins

Topic Task - Friday 22nd May

Every Friday we would like families to come together and spend some quality time together. Please use your imagination but possible activities include:

Create a Family Quiz

Learn a Magic Trick

Child to teach family a PE game from school i.e. capture the flag

Solve a Puzzle

Create your own bowling lane from things in your house

If none of these are suitable here is a list of 101 activities we have found. You may be need to be selective!

Topic Task - Thursday 21st May

Science

LO: To classify different vertebrates into groups.

Today we are  focusing on the vertebrate group only. Vertebrates can be sorted into even smaller groups. Use the powerpoint to find out about different vertebrate groups. There are loads of great videos on youtube to watch if you type in 'vertebrates'. Here is our recommended video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R50Xc1EUHwg&safe=true

Must: Complete the Vertebrate activity sheet- key

Should: Have a go at creating your own key about different animals

Could: Use the vertebrate sorting cards to learn about different animals- could you turn it into a game or display to hep you remember?

Enjoy!

Estimated Time: 40 mins

Topic Task: Tuesday 19th May

LO: To learn about vertebrates and invertebrates.

Your job today is to find out what these two words mean: vertebrates and invertebrates. Use the vertebrate and invertebrate cards (cards below) and read the information to learn about the features of each group. What does an animal have to have to be a vertebrate? What about an invertebrate?

Watch the following videos to find out more:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRKoGO7hNXg&safe=true

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzxFTrktN1c&safe=true

Must: Make a poster comparing vertebrates and invertebrates. Use the information that you have learnt from the cards and the videos. Draw pictures of animals as examples for each group.

Could: Make a key (like yesterday) for sorting animals into their groups.

Estimated Time: 30 mins

Topic Task - Monday 18th May

Science

LO: To identify animals using a key

In order to identify animals using a key, first we need to practise using a key. Let's start with something fun- use the Alien Key (resource 1) to choose an alien and sort the aliens by answering the questions. Can you work out who goes where?!

Today, you will be making and using keys, just like the alien key, to identify water animals from a pond.

Must: Below are 3 different sheets- a set of images of animals from the pond (resource 2), a pond key (resource 3) and a writing frame to keep notes on (resource 4). Can you identify the pond animals? Write one important fact about each animal that helped you to identify it. You can write this on the writing frame or in your home learning book.

Should: Create your own identification key- it could be for animals that live in a certain habitat or you could make one about anything that you are interested in.

Could: Why do you think that we need keys to help us identify animals?

Estimated Time: 40 mins

Topic Task - Thursday 14th May

In topic today we would like children to think back across all their Art activities in the last few weeks. Some things may have gone to plan and other tasks may have been more challenge. In Art it is important to look back an evaluate or work. Therefore for today's task children are to complete the evaluation sheet below.

Topic Task - Wednesday 13th May

Bonjour les enfants!

This week's French is on the topic of - Les couleurs - C'est facile!

Topic Task - Tuesday 12th May

For today's Art lesson we would like children and parents (sorry!) to get really creative with how they create a picture. Children should use found items to create a collage of a chair. We are thinking Art Attack style! Here is a list of possible materials to use:

  • Twigs
  • Lollipop Sticks
  • Leaves
  • Cocktail Sticks
  • Tree Bark
  • Grass
  • Torn up newspaper
  • Sweet Wrappers
  • Petals
  • Tin Foil
  • Small stones
  • Fabric off-cuts
  • Sand
  • Glitter
  • Beads
  • Wool

You may find it easier to draw out a rough outline first and then cover this with small pieces of collage material.

You could choose to glue the collage material on paper or simply take a photo of your finished piece.

We look forward to seeing finished pieces!

Topic Task - Monday 11th May

In topic this week we will continuing our work in Art thinking about the new school library. We absolutely loved receiving some of your 'mood boards' last week and would love to display more of your creative ideas this week. Today we would like children to focus on designing a chair to go in their themed area. Please see examples below:

Think of your favourite story/stories, book characters, interests. Example themes: Julia Donaldson, Insects, Harry Potter... it is up to you......

Children could draw out their own template of a chair thinking carefully about proportion. You are also welcome to use one of the template below:
