English Task - Friday 27th March

LO: To write a recount

Resources needed: Home Learning Book

Today is the day to write your recount. You will recount the experience you had (as Usain Bolt of yourself) of completing a 100 m race. Use the planning sheet from yesterday's lesson to help you - you've already done all of the hard work!

If you are writing as though you are Usain Bolt- you could begin by watching the video again. Type into youtube:

Usain Bolt Wins Olympic 100m Gold | London 2012 Olympic Games

Look through your work from this week to remind you about the key features of a recount (first person, time connectives, chronological sequence, thought and feelings, past tense -ed). Also, remember to include different descriptions of your senses during the experience. What could you hear before the race? After? During? How did you feel?

We look forward to receiving pictures of your recounts to display on our Year 4 WOW wall. Please send them to if possible.

Good Luck!

Estimated Time: 45 minutes

English Task - Thursday 26th March

LO: To plan a recount

Resources needed: Home Learning Book and planning sheet (attachment below)

Tomorrow you are going to write a recount. You can either choose to write your recount as though you are Usain Bolt OR you can remember a time when you were in a race and recount that experience.

Today's task is preparing to write this recount by planning it.

Use the recount planning sheet to plan your recount. Remember the key features of a recount (check your poster for a reminder!)

Estimated Time: 45 minutes to 1 hour

English Task - Wednesday 25th March

LO: To describe a race using the senses

Resources needed: Home Learning Book and youtube video (Usain Bolt Wins Olympic 100m Gold, London 2012)

Watch the video. Imagine that you are Usain Bolt about to take part in the race. What can you hear? What can you see? How do you feel? Use your own experiences of sports day races to help you.

Can you act out the video with your family?

In your home learning book, split your page into 4 boxes. Choose 4 senses and label each box with a different sense (hear, see, feel, smell, taste).

Recount the experience by adding different words and phrases for each sense e.g. feel - beads of sweat dripping down my back, hear- cheering crowds

Remember to use adjectives and ambitious language!

English Task - Tuesday 24th March

Sorry this hasn't been posted sooner. We have been experiencing technical issues!
